Ghost Replacement

Hello everyone. I need some advice on my kick drum pedal. I've used an old Ludwig Ghost for over 20 years and love it. The fear of the pedal breaking and not being able to replace it made me go out an buy a DW 5000AH, which is a VERY nice pedal. Two things I'm finding that don't work for me: the DW feels heavy, and I'm missing the direct link aspect of the Ghost.

So, that being said, do you have any suggestions? I've tried Axis but don't care for the feel. The new Yamaha MIGHT be the ticket. I sure wish I could do a "try and buy" test drive of pedals on my kit at home.

Try the Pearl Eliminator with the strap and interchangeable cams the next time you're at the drum shop.

Try a nylon drive pedal, much smoother than a chain. If you talk with certain tech heads at different drum companies they will tell you the chain pedal is their bread and butter pedal but more Pro cats play a strap.

I play a Pearl Eliminator at church, and it's very nice.

Do any of you use one of the new Yamaha Flying Dragon pedals?

Randy, any suggestions on specific nylon pedals to check out?

I personally use a DW and feels good to me, but what feels good to 1 person may or may not work for another. So my suggestion would be to try a few different brands, I have heard good things about the new Yamaha and the Iron Cobra nylon is not too bad. But I have also heard the new Pearl pedals to be extremly smooth too.
My only gripe about DW is the bottom plates, I go thru these often. Sometimes replacing them 3 or so times a year, they bend way too easy. The plates on Yamaha and Pearl pedals are in the heavier gauge of metal and will hold up much better. I think Guitar Center still offers the 30 day plan, so I would go buy a DW (which you may have to order) most places don't stock nylon drive pedals and try it out, take it back and then say try a Pearl. Find the one that fits your needs, try not to buy on what MD or someone else says is ideal, remember it's about what works for you and your style of playing and or gigs.

Great advise Randy. I know I can count on you. I was wrong about my DW. I have the 5000AD, the double chain. Like I said, it's smooth and all, but the action just feels heavy.

I think I'll try the Yamaha Flyin Dragon with direct link first.
